British boxer Anthony Joshua Released from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Fatal Road Accident

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been released from care, officials in Lagos stated on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old was part of a serious road collision in the Lagos area on the 29th of December, a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of two of his team members.

Recovering from Minor Injuries

The boxer had remained in the hospital while healing from his light wounds, his promoter had said on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement online that Joshua was judged healthy enough to “recuperate at home”.

“Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” Omotosho said.

Remembering the Victims

The two men who died were identified as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. The official further stated that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the passing of his two trusted companions.”

His release from the hospital arrives after the sports world had expressed sympathy for the champion in the following the terrible crash.
