No less than 64 individuals lost their lives in a law enforcement action targeting the Red Command gang in Rio de Janeiro's northern suburbs - the biggest and most lethal operation in the area's history.

Four security agents were included in the fatalities during the police action in the communities of Alemão and Penha, government representatives stated. Over 80 individuals were taken into custody.
